Spanning two weekends, the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Celebrations will bring the arts to the public – both at city areas and community spaces. There will be close to 210 student performances and activities in various art forms, such as music, dance and drama.

29 June (Friday)
Indoor Music Showcase Kick off the weekend by enjoying music performances by students, inspired by music from Asia and numbers from musicals.

Outdoor Music & Dance Showcase 6:00pm to 8:30pm The Esplanade (Outdoor Theatre) With the modern cityscape in the background, students will be showcasing Indian, Malay and Chinese dances, as well as contemporary dance. A mishmash of modernity and culture, true to Singapore! |
Site-Inspired Multi-Modal Performances 5:00pm to 7:30pm National Gallery Singapore (Padang Atrium) The arts are constantly evolving. Performances at the National Gallery Singapore will include audience interaction and spontaneous music making. Be mesmerised by the String Ensemble and take part in Kaleidoscope, an Interactive Game with Chance Music. |
Dramatised Reading 5:30pm to 7pm National Gallery Singapore (Singapore Courtyard) Under the mentorship of local playwright, Mr Chong Tze Chien, students from Bukit View Secondary School and Westwood Secondary School will bring to life original co-devised scripts. |
30 June (Saturday)
Festival Concert 3pm to 4pm (Matinee) and 7pm to 8pm (Evening Show) The Esplanade (Theatre) Featuring a dazzling array of performances put together by close to 350 students, the festival concert is a spectacular showcase of youth artistic talents and passion. Look forward to highlights such as sand animation with the enchanting sound of handbells, a STOMP percussion ensemble with hiphop dancers, as well as an acapella performance which integrates beatboxing! Note: Free admission but tickets are required. |
Indoor Music Showcase 5.30pm to 8pm The Esplanade (Concourse) Check out the Sapelele performance by guest musicians from Malaysia, as well as Angklung and Kulintang performances by students from CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent and Crescent Girls’ School! |
Outdoor Dance Showcase 6:00pm to 8:30pm The Esplanade (Outdoor Theatre) In addition to the cultural dances, there will be a special collaborative performance featuring rhythm gymnastics with music played by a Chinese Orchestra. |
Play! @The Library: A Drama Showcase 12:45pm to 5pm Jurong Regional Library (Programme Zone) Kids who enjoy watching drama should not miss out on Kids Play!, a series of performances showing our students’ take on fairy tales, folklores and myths. |
Dance Extravaganza 12pm to 6pm Bukit Panjang Plaza (Atrium) Be blown away by dance performances in music genres such as jazz, fusion, ballet, hip hop and breakdance. Everyone’s also invited to join in the mass dance! |
Art Labs 12:30pm to 5pm Bukit Panjang Plaza (Atrium) 1pm to 5pm 1:30pm to 5:30pm Families and children will enjoy trying their hand at art-making, led by students. Also, it’s free! |
Illuminate! 2:30pm to 4pm United Square Shopping Mall (Basement 1 Atrium) Bringing the arts to you, students will be performing for the public, so be sure to cheer them on. There’ll be circus arts, a rock band and even a fashion parade. |
Site-Inspired Multi-Modal Performances 1:30pm to 5:00pm National Gallery Singapore (Padang Atrium) Inspired by the artworks at the National Gallery Singapore, students mentored by Mervin Wong will perform their musical response using the Gamelan and electronic music. Also, catch the collaboration between Dazhong Primary School’s Junior Orchestra and Methodist Girls’ (Secondary) School’s String Ensemble! |

1 July (Sunday)
Spoken Word (A Poetry Recitation) 4:30pm to 5pm The Esplanade (Library@Esplanade, Open Stage) Hear our young rhymesters from Xinmin Secondary School, Deyi Secondary School and Tampines Junior College as they present original poems about family, friendship, history and even time travel. |
Indoor Music Showcase 5:30pm to 7:30pm The Esplanade (Concourse) If you love pop music, then this one’s for you. These student musicians have also been mentored by local band, 53A, so let’s hear them out! |
Outdoor Music Showcase 5:00pm to 8pm The Esplanade (Outdoor Theatre) Soak in the last of the weekend with tunes from a concert band and Chinese orchestra. Also, don’t miss out the percussion gig by Sambiesta, in collaboration with students from Marsiling Primary School. |
Site-Inspired Multi-Modal Performances 2:30pm to 6:00pm National Gallery Singapore (Padang Atrium) Facial expressions from the audience will be the inspiration for Zhenghua Secondary School’s Drum Ensemble! Also, take part in Kaleidoscope, an Interactive Game with Chance Music. |

Play! @The Library: A Drama Showcase 12pm to 5:45pm Jurong Regional Library (Programme Zone) Check out budding talents, some of whom may be the next big thing in the local arts scene soon. Secondary and Tertiary student actors and actresses will use props to tell their story in Let’s Play!. |

SYF 2018 Art Exhibition Saturdays to Thursdays: 10am-7pm Fridays: 10am-9pm National Gallery Singapore (Supreme Court Terrace, Level 4) Over 400 artworks by about 1400 student artists will be featured on the theme ‘Artist and Citizenship’. Visit for free and participate in the fringe activities led by student artists. The full range of artworks can also be viewed online through the SYF Art Exhibition Online Gallery. |

Evolution! 3:30pm to 6pm National Library (Plaza, Level 1) Do you love music? Are you an inspiring dancer? Then here’s something not to be missed. Our students will battle it out in a talent quest based on four categories: Vocals, Pop Band, Dance and Beatbox! |

Youth Station Live in Concert 4pm to 6pm National Library (Plaza, Level 1) Be inspired as the Top 16 finalists of the SYF 2018 Song Writing Contest bring you a special performance of their original songs at this live showcase. Prior to this performance, these songwriters and performers were also given the opportunity to be mentored by industry professionals! |
