Four polytechnic diploma programmes to consider

As admissions exercises for polytechnics draw near, graduating students may already be mulling the various diploma options available. In the face of the changing economy and evolving industry needs, institutes of higher learning have launched new courses and will add more Common Entry Programmes to provide students with skills necessary for work.

Here are four recently launched diploma programmes which graduating students may consider:

Diploma in International Trade and Business

The full-time programme offered by Ngee Ann Polytechnic will help students understand international trade practices and supply chain management. They will learn skills relating to finance, purchasing and logistics.

There will also be opportunities for students to participate in learning trips and internships abroad. Additionally, students will embark on a capstone project, where they will make use of the skills they have learned to propose solutions to challenges in international trade operations.

Graduates can consider careers in wholesale trade and logistics sectors, where they can dabble in sourcing for products abroad, purchasing and shipping them, and distributing them.

Diploma in Engineering Systems and Management

In this course at Republic Polytechnic, students can expect to learn the nuts and bolts of running a public transport system. They will be trained in areas including rescheduling buses, and train operation and maintenance.

Graduates can look forward to embarking on careers in engineering, robotics and transport operations.

Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education

Aspiring early childhood educators will have the opportunity to be trained in areas including child safety, health and socio-emotional wellbeing, language and literacy, and social emotional learning.

The course will also provide opportunities for hands-on learning at pre-schools, where students can hone the soft skills required in interacting with young children. In addition, interested students will get to specialise in either the Early Intervention or Visual Arts tracks, which are offered at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic respectively. In the Early Intervention track, students will learn about childhood disabilities and disorders, while those in the Visual Arts track will take up modules such as book illustration and design for children.

Diploma in Sustainable Architectural Design

Students in the Nanyang Polytechnic programme can expect to learn the ropes in designing for the built environment. They will also learn to make use of augmented-reality and virtual-reality tools to create sustainable architectural solutions.

Graduates can develop their careers in sectors such as architecture, construction, urban design and planning, and real estate development.
